“We had an amazing time staying at Chateau Caillac on one of their tandems and turrets breaks. We cycled every day on the most comfortable bike I have ever sat on. The brand new,high-
“Just returned from a fabulous few days at Chateau Caillac doing a test run of their Luxury Tandem holidays. From the moment we were collected from Bergerac airport by Steve and our welcome at Fongrave by Angela with drinks and nibbles we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. A beautiful property in a stunning location, delicious home cooked food washed down with wine and prosecco whats not to like? As for the revelation of the electric tandems, we thought it would feel a bit like we were cheating but the boost of power meant we could ride further afield and tackle hills that we would never dream of in this country. Steve chose some amazing routes in a variety of landscapes-

What an amazing four days of Tandems & Turrets. The Chateau was jaw dropping as you drove up the driveway and simply stunning inside and out. Both Angela and Steve welcomed us into their beautiful home with open arms and nothing was too much trouble.
The electric tandems were simple to master, having never ridden one before. Just make sure you keep in time with each other when peddling, it makes it much easier.
Steve took us to some beautiful villages on our travels and he even turned a miserable rainy day into fun! Steve’s knowledge of the area was superb using mainly cycle tracks and quiet roads with stops for coffee, lunch and photos.
Angela was always there when we returned with a big smile and an even bigger homemade cake with tea, coffee, wine or beer. Time to relax or have a swim before
aperitifs around the pool with nibbles then an amazing four course dinner cooked by Angela.
Thank you Angela and Steve for four amazing days we will never forget.
“Tandems & Turrets -
A brilliant few days staying in a beautiful chateau in the french countryside. 3 days tandem cycling brilliantly organised by Steve. Suitable for all fitness levels with the excellent support provided by Steve and the wonderful bond and camaraderie of the group of like minded couples. Angela provided us all with a lovely breakfast, a packed lunch and our return was greeted with fresh home made cake and followed with a wonderful 4 course dinner. Overall, a fantastic few days where strangers became friends, laughter and fun was in abundance and it was a pleasure to meet Steve and Angela who both go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome. Would highly recommend to others. Keep up the good work.
“Great Chateau, Great food, Great guests and Great hosts!”
Booked a 5 night Tandems and Turrets holiday back in January as a birthday present for my wife. Then found the chateau being featured on Channel 4 programme (Escape to the Chateau DIY) in early Feb. The actual holiday exceeded the expectations set from the program. The Chateau and the room were delightful, the other three couples taking part on the holiday were wonderful and our hosts, Steve and Angela, were just perfect. We had a great time with so many laughs and lovely meals. We were sad to have it all end. Would definitely recommend.
“Simply the best”
We have travelled widely, but we return to Château Caillac regularly, as it is our absolute favourite place. The château itself is stunningly beautiful and stands in exquisite grounds. It’s rural location and situation on the banks of the river Lot make it an ideal holiday venue. There are beautiful views over the river with mesmerising reflections of trees, neighbouring properties and lovely sunsets. The garden leads directly to a jetty and access to the river itself. The rooms are sumptuous and spacious, with en suite bathrooms. We recently enjoyed the Tandems and Turrets week, a fully catered package. I have cycled in this area before, but the e-
“Fun, friends, food, France -
My husband and I are huge France fans, we like to cycle and well, who doesn't like a bit of luxury now and again, so small wonder we had such a fantastic time here on our Tandems and Turrets trip.
Steve and Angela are château owners extraordinaire, they are kind and generous hosts who genuinely seem to enjoy sharing their stunning home with guests and take pride in ensuring everyone has the best possible time. Their level of care and planning shows in every thoughtful detail, nothing is too much trouble and they are constantly on hand offering drinks or yet more delicious food, showing you round their home or mending guests' possessions!
As hard as it was to tear ourselves away from the luxury of the château, we had great fun on the tandems too. Each tandem is colour coded and you keep the same bike, fitted to your preference, for the whole trip. A pannier is also provided which eliminates the need to wear a rucksack plus you are given your own water bottle which fits the holders on your tandem. Steve has the bikes cleaned, checked and charged each morning and the route planned according to weather conditions, he also makes provision for coffee breaks, comfort stops, photo ops and visits to places of interest such as a traditional french market or the beautiful water lily gardens that inspired some of Monet's paintings. We had never ridden a tandem before but quickly took to it, learning to pedal in sync and enjoying being able to chat away as we travelled through picturesque and peaceful countryside. We averaged around 50km per day, the electric boost on the tandems proving helpful for hills and headwinds and meant that the group could always keep together at a decent pace. Due to the huge range of weather we experienced during our three days of cycling, a top tip would be to pack a really good waterproof coat and bring spare trainers, we enjoyed the day despite the rain but boy did we get soaked! Also, for the ladies, just two words...padded bottoms!
Returning each day to Angela's smiling welcome and home baked cake was really something to look forward to, but make sure you're first home on flapjack day and run off with the whole plate, they are amazing! Following that we tended to relax around the pool with a drink, chatting to the other guests but if you still have the energy there is table tennis or a game of pool, equally if you want a little down-
It's hard to get across just how much I enjoyed this trip thanks to Angela and Steve's fabulous hospitality, the great company of our fellow tandemers and the feeling of contentment I felt at the chateau, it was all wonderful, merci beaucoup.
“The best 4 days I have ever spent”
I was a bit apprehensive that riding a tandem would be tricky but I needn’t have been, as the quality of the e-
At the end of each day it was wonderful to be welcomed home by Angela with drinks and cake by the pool.
The chateau itself is an incredible place to stay. Our room was of a high standard with the quirky addition of a toilet in a turret! Waking up to the view across the pond, lawns and down to the the river Lot was very special. You can even savour the view while sitting in the bath.
It is hard to pick on one particular aspect of our stay as a single highlight as it was all excellent. However Angela’s food was definitely one of the very many high points for me. The four course dinners were delicious and were something that I really looked forward to. Angela is a terrific cook and her attention to detail is obvious. Drinks and canapés before dinner were all also excellent.
Our hosts, Steve and Angela, are both lovely people and it was ultimately they, not the stunning chateau, the amazing location by the river Lot nor the wonderful countryside that made it such a great holiday, though they all added to the experience. It did not feel merely like a hotel stay but instead something very special and personal. Steve and Angela shared their wonderful home with us for the duration of our stay and they were an integral part of the experience for me.
I was genuinely very sad to have to leave at the end of break. I cannot recommend Tandems and Turrets highly enough. I will be back.
Thank you to Angela and Steve, (and Molly the cat) for an excellent experience. I am confident that Tandems and Turrets will continue to be a huge success.
